Clothing The Emperor

by Garold Markle

Clothing The Emperor is a call to action for executive coaches.  It is particularly relevant for those that also serve as group leaders, such as Vistage chairs, TEC chairs, or CEO Global Network group leaders. It was designed for them to share it with coaching clients and should serve well to spur some deeply engaging one-to-one conversations. It describes the unique value proposition that an executive coach can utilize to attract and bond with executive coaching clients. It attempts to capture a little bit of what the author calls his “secret sauce” in becoming a Rookie TEC Chair of the Year a few years ago. It also attempts to address a gap he’s seen in speaking to more than 400 CEO groups in the US, Canada and UK over the past eleven years. The material was honed in a program conducted as TEC Canada’s first Best Practices Workshop for Chairs.  Four versions of this article are provided, tailored to each of the major constituencies that the author has addressed.  Select the one that best applies to you.  Please enjoy and share!

Are you a World-Class Sales Organization? Carlos Quintero

Or do you aspire to be?  What is "World-Class" anyway?

Clearly, all of us understand that to succeed in our hyper-competitive world, everyone must continually challenge themselves to perform and raise their own performance.   Yet, what are some of the characteristics or "practices" of world-class sales organizations?

In this month's Sales Excellence corner, author, consultant and sales trainer extraordinaire Carlos Quintero shares his observations of 16 practices he has observed of superior sales teams.  We encourage you to review these and ask yourself how you compare.

Catalyst5 – Making the Leap from Sales Manager to Sales LEADER

The result Catalyst Bookof my and Nancy Sutherland’s experiences in developing the capabilities of sales leaders and in consulting with sales professionals and sales teams in a variety of industries for over 20 years. Catalyst5 is available in both paperback and on audio CD from either Amazon or directly from us at www.saleseffectiveness.com

Here’s a quote from Gary that we included on the jacket….

“The story line in this instructive novel is so compelling that you don't even realize that you're learning something profound until you near the conclusion. Quintero and Sutherland have created a powerful system for distilling the essence of sales leadership to its most pragmatic core. As a former HR VP and current trainer and consultant who focuses on employee development, I can't wait for the training program that takes the teachings in this book another important step further. Great stuff for growing sales leaders!”

SIGNATURE STORY UPDATE:  My Football Playing Son, Ten Years Later

Professional speakers are often remembered for one or two signature stories.  Perhaps my most memorable anecdote is the one I tell of my son, Garrett, who at age 10, asked me to teach him to play running back for the Lassiter Junior Trojan football team.  The story concludes with his successful stint – at offensive tackle.  A lot has happened in the last decade.  I thought loyal readers might enjoy an update on Garrett’s athletic endeavors.  Click on the image below to hear from my son ten years later.

Gross Reality Show - Radio Interview with Gary Markle

On July 22, 2009 Gary Markle was interviewed on the radio program “Gross Reality” by host Steve Gross, a live broadcast on America's Web Radio.  Steve is also CEO of HLB Gross Collins and founder of Business Builders Team based in Atlanta. Steve's topic of the day, Empowering Your People to Empower Your Business, gave Gary a chance to talk about Catalytic Coaching and the importance of employee development in a down market.  He also asked him to speak about two of the lead articles, The Frogger Economy and When Zombies Attack, which had appeared in our newsletter in months past.

If you’d like to listen to this recording, click below to download a copy of the Windows Media Player file, or navigate to http://www.radiosandysprings.com/showpages/grossReality.php and follow the prompts.  The entire Gross Reality Show is interesting, but if you would like to just hear Gary’s interview, it begins about seventeen minutes into the broadcast.  Notes from the show can also be obtained on that same page.  Enjoy!
